Just doesn't get much of a lookin these days, does it? A shame really, but the drive these days is all about instant gratification.

But that's not what I'm here to talk about!

Life goes on. I'm still really liking my job, though I'm in a bit of a quiet spell at the moment, and have run out of interesting new ideas for research at the moment, so the last couple of days have been a little dull. That never lasts though! I'm now settled in my new flat, and loving it here.

Family life is... stressful. My beloved [info]kissycat1000 is as amazing as ever, but other family members are going through massive changes and coming to terms with various things. People are still keeping together though, and carrying on as normal, which is good I guess. It's difficult knowing there's so little I can do to make things better for them. But I do all I can.

I've gotten into airsoft as a hobby now. It's so much more fun than paintballing! Thanks to a buch of second hand kit from [info]sacha37, I was able to jump right in with hardly any outlay, which was *awesome*. I've got another game coming up in a few of weeks, for which i will hopefully be able to use my sniper rifle, which I've only briefly used before now, and that without having had the chance to set it up beforehand. I may even have another new assault rifle by the time of the game too. :D

Other things coming up.
I have a stag gathering this weekend, which should be fun. Just waiting for final confirmation on arrangements for that one.
Next weekend is DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL, WOOOO!!! (I, *ahem* may be a teensy bit excited about this).
The weekend after that is the Great Annual Cave Party™. Which is every year, come rain or shine, and I would not miss.
The last weekend in June is my next airsoft event, yay!
In July there's the Tewkesbury battle festival, teh Caerphilly Big Cheese festival, and I'll be seeing Dylan Moran in Cheltenham town hall! August is already pretty much full too!

You know what. It has it's stresses, but I like my life.

Last night was the last session of the fencing course I've been doing where we were learning. Next week is"box night". Basically, no more lessons, but those of us in the beginner class will have our own competition with a referee and the electric sensors. Should be fun! :D

A couple of days ago, my motorbike started spewing oil everywhere. This, of course, is not good. I dropped it in to the mechanic and borrowed a car for the next day. Fortunately the repairs were minor, just a new oil filer and seal. What made me wince though, was when I picked it up, he showed me the old filer, and told me that the only other time he had seen corrosion like that on an oil filter the person hadn't noticed at first. Then while out on a ride, the oil pressure got too much and blew the front clean off the weakened filter, emptying all the oil all over the wheels and brakes, and taking a chunk out of the fairing. Seems I was very lucky to have noticed the leak before this happened to me!

No, I'm not GLaDOS :)

Been a while though! [info]kissycat1000 posting yesterday reminded me that it's been months since I did so myself. Work is the main reason I never post anymore. My days are full of hard but *interesting* work. The sort of work I always wanted to do, and that lets me feel like I make a difference. This just doesn't leave much time for blogging, and so I stick mainly to FB and twitter these days (though I do still read all my f-list!).

But anyway, just wanted to check in. Off to fencing in a couple of hours so going to relax a bit before that.

Why is it that if I don't have breakfast with my coffee, I'm fine until around lunchtime, but if I DO have breakfast with my coffee, I'm hungry again within the hour, and constantly want to snack all morning?!

Why must it piss it down with rain when I have an awesome weekend away with friends and loved ones forcing us to cancel, only to have blazing sunshine for the entire time that I *can't* go anywhere?!

Also, why do people who are leaving insist on mailing everyone at the company to say "I''m leaving, miss you all, blah blah blah!"? I don't know them, have never met them, and no-one in this room has either. We don't give a toss if they're leaving, and if they hadn't spammed us all, wouldn't even know. Must take quite a special type of ego to think the *entire* company will care you're leaving when you've only been here 2 years, and you're only a customer support tech.

And why is it that things that have been working just fine for months have suddenly decided they dont' want to work any more? Nothing ahs changed, I've spent the last day and a half confirming that nothing has changed. Stupid computers. :/

Urgh. I think I should stop there, or this coulde go on forever...

I hate Fridays.

Following on from my previous post, I found some photos that I took while on holiday in Prague with [info]kissycat1000 last November. These particular ones are from Kutna Hora, known as the "Church of Bones", with good reason. They've sat on my memory card since then and got lost in the hundreds of photos I've taken since then. So here they are...

Judder, Babylon5, nowhere near enough sleep, drive to London, find people, hugs!, coffee, cake, Dinosaurs!, find more people, pub, garlic and shots, drive to Cheltenham, sleep, baby cuddles, Takeshi's Castle, Ninja Warrior, meet people at pub, pub lunch, home, chat, Zombieland, Dawn of war II, Portal, bed.

That was my weekend in short form, from Friday at around 9pm to midnight-ish on Sunday, accompanied by my wonderful [info]kissycat1000.

Didn't sleep well last night, and vaguely remember having Portal-like dreams. It seems I may be getting a cold, which I blame [info]tianna_j for. I think this week I shall try and take things a bit easier, I am a bit over tired...

...must be similar to how I sound at the moment. After a day of extreme toothache pain yesterday, and being unable to get an emergency appointment in Crawley to get it seen to, I managed to get an emergency appointment with my own dentist today. One extraction later and the lower left part of my face is completely numb (local anaesthetic tastes f*cking vile btw). Need to go back in a few more times though, two remaining wisdom teeth need to come out, then work on the rest can start. I am *very* much looking forward to a night of pain free sleep though!

Stupid teeth, sorting them all out is going to basically cost all of the money I had managed to save over the last year. :(

Otherwise though, it was awesome to spend time with [info]gashinryu and [info]blaadyblah over the weekend. I have also discovered that the only way to move a passed out drunken rock god, is to punch it repeatedly somewhere soft until it gets up and goes away. :)

Not allowed to chew anything until 20:30, which is depressing me somewhat as I'm starving and can smell the yummy foods which are being eaten in the house. :( No coffee either until tomorrow. :(

My weekend involved the following:
  • Paintballing for a stag party
  • Free comic book day afterparty
  • Pub lunch
  • LAN gaming
  • Space Crusade
  • Iron Man 2
  • Pizza Hut
My thighs are still a little sore from paintballing. It seems I'm a bit out of shape, heh. :)

We are starting to plan the annual cave party. It will very likely be a weekend in June. Speak up if you're interested!

We've had such lovely weather this week. I really hate being stuck inside in an office when it's like this. No matter how much I like my job, I'd still rather be outside, preferably in a woodland area. :) Still, today has been a mostly easy day. I spent the morning fixing bugs customising features, then had lunch, and the afternoon has mostly been spent either in meetings or chatting to people about next week.

Next week I'll be attending InfoSec at Earl's Court (well, I'll be there for the Tuesday). My first professional conference, should be interesting! Apparently I'm not actually expected to do anything specific, just 'be there', talk to people in other companies, network, that kind of thing. Also known as, go to the bar and chat with other like-minded people who've been told to do the same thing by their company

I've finally got around to ending my contract with Vodafone. I've been with them for... around twelve-ish years now I think. The lure of a shiny new HTC Desire made me look at available contract options, and with my brother recently starting work at another provider (thus being able to give me a substantial discount to my contract after a few months), I've made the switch. Can't say I've ever had any problems with Vodafone though, they've been fine all the time I've been with them really.

I'm *really* feeling the camping urge at the moment. I'm a hills and forests person and need to get away from urbanism every once in a while to stay sane. The bike offers me some freedom to shoot off into the countryside now and then, but that on its own isn't enough. It'll have to do for this weekend though, Saturday night I'm babysitting for Jordan and Reo (my grandson!! Me! A Grampy!). :D So, anyone up for a camping trip? Haven't been down to Cornwall in a while...

My little brother got married on Saturday. I'm so happy for him, and my new sister-in-law. :) It looked all a bit much for them, but it was so clear they adore each other, and they seemed to love it all despite the "rabbit in the headlights look". Bless 'em :D

Today I went to see "How to train your dragon" in 3D. It was a fantastic film and I heartily recommend it to anyone and everyone!! I also went to see "Clash of the titans" 3D this evening. It was a pretty good film, but I left feeling sadly disappointed, purely because it had to live up to the original. At which it failed. The action was good, the acting was fine (from the main cast at least), but it felt very "bitty", and could have done so much more. Also, I don't believe it was shot in 3D (but was 3D-ified in post production), as it didn't work very well, and looked like it just had "layers" rather than actual depth.

Oh yes, and before I forget, I also got engaged to [info]kissycat1000. :)

Rather bright today, as was yesterday. This pleases me greatly :D

I've had a bit of a stinking cold over the last few days. I dhd to take Thursday off work sick last week, felt a bit better on Friday, then got worse again for the weekend. This was really annoying as it meant I didn't get to go out and play on the Fireblade and make the most of the sun. Ah well, there will be more sun (I hope!). Today I am working from home, as I need to get some stuff done without distractions. I also need to go to the GP surgery to order a repeat prescription (looking at the sun, think I may take "the long way home" after that one *grin*).

Thursday this week is my birthday. I'm... kinda 'meh' about it to be honest, though I'm sure I'll be more in the mood on the actual day. Still, I've booked Friday off work, so I can have a long weekend and spend a whole day with [info]kissycat1000, yay! Then Saturday it's down to Bristol for Munchkin weekend. :)

In other news, [info]kissycat1000 and I have booked tickets and confirmed childcare for Sonisphere Festival, which I am very VERY much looking forward to. What makes it doubly awesome, is that it's on [info]kissycat1000's birthday weekend. :D Also, we can't be bothered with all that lugging around of tents and stuff, so we're gonna pay someone to set up a tent for us, put an already inflated airbed in it, and give us sleeping bags. Then we don't need to worry about exactly when we turn up, we'll already have a pitch, and won't need to do anything. Hurrah!

Life continues. I still don't really know what's going on or what to do about it. To quote a Metallica lyric I just listened to "not only do I not know the answer, I don't even know what the question is...". But I'm less bothered about this now. Still have days where I feel quite down, but for the most part I'm happier in general as I get back to my usual mentality of "it'll all work out as it should, no point worrying about it cos that's no good to anyone" and letting life get on with doing it's thing.

There are people I really miss and want to spend time with very much. I have a bit more time these days so I shall be making efforts to pin these people down...

I have some nice things planned for the next week, which I'm looking forward to. But I've been reminded that my birthday is coming up soon. I should really think about what (if anything) I want to do for it. Suggestions are welcome!

Had my GP appointment this evening. I actually got to see one of the three resident GPs (and the one I regard as "my" GP too) rather than a locum, so a good start. She listened to my explanation, nodded along, agreed with everything the consultant had told me, and has given me a Seretide inhaler, which is a combination of steroid for prevention of problems and also a slow bronchial dilator (like salbutamol, but longer/slower acting). I'm to try this for a month, then go back in for re-assessment to see if it's working (I already have the appointment) where I'll hopefully end up with a repeat prescription. If not, something else will be tried. :) But my chest infection appears to have cleared up, so the antibiotics are doing their job. Just another 2 days of those left. Progress is good, I am fairly optimistic about it all at the moment really. :)

Christmas eve started with a coughing fit, not great, but I had a cold/flu so meh. In the afternoon I went to Venture with [info]kissycat1000 to view te results of our photosooth. there were some really good shots in there, the photographer did a good job of capturing "us" in a way that we liked. I spent too much, but meh, I liked them a lot. :)

In the afternoon however, things changed a bit, for the worse. More coughing and breathing became increasingly difficult. When I started feeling light-headed because I just couldn't get enough air in, I decided the best thing to do was to go to A&E.

The rest of my christmas )

Still, got home in time to actually have christmas with my family, "tree presents" had been left to be opened until I got home. I am now sat in [info]kissycat1000's lounge with my family around me, feeling quite healthy, though tired and weak, and I am really quite happy and content. :)

So yeah, not a conventional or great christmas up until about 3pm, but since then it's been great. Merry christmas everyone, and thanks to everyone who sent get-well wishes either direct or via [info]kissycat1000's post. :)

$colleague has had his hair cut off (he had hair just below shoulder length). $LoudAnnoyingFemaleColleague hasn't said a single word all morning. $PRColleague has just told us not to worry about a bit of work, it can wait until the new year. The cleaners cleaned the floor and desks (rather than just empty the waste bins). There's actually coffee available in the kitchen (rather than just instant). $QuietColleague is making jokes and chatting with people.

I think I may have come into the wrong office by mistake or something... *looks around nervously* Or maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the dimensions?

Oh yeah, I should actually try and learn some Czech... Bugger, I completely forgot about that bit. Ah well, 2 weeks should be MORE than enough time to learn a few basics! :)

Saw 9 last night. It was really rather good, though surprisingly short (only 1 hour and 19 minutes). I think the best description I heard was "kind of like LittleBigPlanet meets Fallout 3". :D Pub afterwards for general catchup and chatting. It was really good to see [info]goetia, [info]sacha37 and [info]malcygoff as it's been a fair shile since I spent any time with any of them! We even managed to get a Pete briefly before kicking out time, and even more briefly an [info]oholiab, who stuck his head in to say hi-bye. :)

Glad it wasn't raining though, as I was on foot! Should do that more, I always think "oh, I can't be bothered to walk in to town...", but it's really not that far, and it's an easy walk. it's about 1.5 miles into the centre, with no hills. There's not really any reasonable excuse for such laziness on my part if I'm honest... ;)

F*ck me it was cold out there this morning! With [info]azekeil taking a couple of days off, I'm commuting on the bike¹, and I'm so very VERY glad I don't have to go all the way to Bristol anymore. Just over to Gloucester was quite far enough!

I'm actually thinking I shouldn't have come in to work today. General colddeadly manflu symptoms are abound and I feel quite rubbish physically. Otherwise I'm quite happy though, so I'll see how the day goes. Can always go home if I feel too bad.

Kitten continues to grow. But he doesn't trust humans. Whenever one goes to him he arches and swipes at their hands, he will also snap at them. I'm convinced that this is because people insist on picking him up whenever he comes near them, regardless of the fact he clearly doesn't want to be. He doesn't like it because he doesn't trust us yet, and the fact this still keeps happening means that he only associates humans with things he hates. We need to basically leave him alone, and let him come to us in his own way. Sit on the floor and play with him. It's what I did with Ratchet. Just need to stop visitors from arbitrarily scooping him up until he's ok with people or we'll never get anywhere.

1: Speaking of the bike, I've now had it for 1 year and 4 days. In the whole year it has not given me one single problem, and has started perfectly every time no matter what the weather. I love that bike :D

Been a while, again! I'm very much still here on LJ, reading everything that gets posted, just don't get the time to post as often myself anymore. I actually find myself doing work, which is something I'm still not quite used to when I realise it! :)

There's not much been going on really, apart from life as usual. I did manage to come by a nice chunk of cash due to two referral bonuses getting paid, and me finally getting round to selling one of my motorbikes. So far I've not really done much with the money, but I have upgraded my desktop PC, so it's now nice and fast again. The old stuff was still ok, but starting to show its age somewhat. Now I need someone to host a LAN so I can take it along and have some gaming fun! As for the rest, unless I think of anything specific to do with it, it'll probably go into savings. Though a chunk of it will become spending money for my week in Prague in November. *grin*

The biggest news in recent time is that [info]azekeil and I have got a new member of the household. Jazz, a tiny kitten who was found by a family in gloucester in an abandoned pub. He's only just over 4 weeks old, so he's still being fed from a bottle (but is definitely starting to get the hang of solids now too). Normally this would be much too young to be taken from his mother, but as he doesn't have a mother, we're raising him by hand. In the last few days he's started to show 'cat behaviour', rather than just searching for milk and then sleeping. Yesterday, he did his first pounce (it was tiny, and he faceplanted the floor, but it was a pounce!) :D

Anyway, here he is, being held by [info]kissycat1000 :)

Last week I went along to a stag do at Spy Games, which was awesome. unfortunately I sprained my wrist during the last activity, and put my left arm out of action for quite a while as a result. Even now, 8 days later, it still hurts like hell if I try and do any lifting, or put any pressure on it at cetain angles. But I at least have a full range of motion back! Even if typing makes me ache :(

Had a nice weekend, quiet night with [info]kissycat1000 on Friday, then on Saturday morning, I accidentally took the 50ish mile route home from her house (the distance between our houses is actually about 1 mile). Sun + cool air + motorbike + no plans = really relaxing ride down random roads simply because you can. The evening then saw a bunch of us eating curry and watching JCVD which was actually rather good, but it did freak me out a bit. Jean-Claude did some acting. No, really, he did acting. See? Freaky innit...

Today I'm at a new desk at work. Only about 20 mins ago was I finally able to actually do anything. When I arrived, none of the 4 power sockets worked, and only one of the three network ports worked, and that was on the wrong network! But, all sorted now. :) Wednesday I will hopefully be going to see the new Harry Potter film. I have booked Friday off work, and am very much looking forward to spending the day with family and good friends. Friday is also my 6th anniversary with [info]kissycat1000. :D

My right arm isn't working properly; I have no strength in the hand, and the wrist occasionally hurts when turned in certain ways. I have mild cold symptoms which are nowhere near enough for me to call myself ill, which is in some ways worse than just being ill (at least when *ill* you can just sit down on a sofa with a nice hot drink and get on with being ill). It is cold, windy and very wet outside. There is hardly anyone in the office so there's not much conversation to be had.

My balanced opinion is therefore that today is arse.

I expect better things after work when I can relax at home and have the company of my wonderful [info]kissycat1000. But until then, it's arse.

Don't get time to update here that much anymore, or possibly don't feel a need to fill time with other things so much anymore. This job really is such a huge difference from the last one! Today is [info]oholiab's first day working here at MessageLabsSymantec SaaS group too. I hope it's all going well for him! Lunchtime shortly, so I'll be able to see if his brain has melted yet or not. :)

But anyway...
My pair of Vibram 5-Fingers KSO arrived (in black, naturally) and I'm loving them. So very comfy! I'm certainly noticing a difference in how my legs work when wearing them, muscles getting worked in ways they're just not used to, which is all for the good! It may help with my knee problems :) They certainly attract some odd looks though. ;)

Last weekend was the annual cave party. Generally people are made of fail, only 4 of us actually made it in the end, but we had a totally awesome time and all you who didn't make it, you honestly don't know what you're missing! I have some video from the night that I'll get round to editing at some point (probably *grin*) and put that up. Some of it will look a bit weird as it's shot in infra-red (well, there's no light in a forest at around midnight!).

This weekend is the Tewkesbury medieval festival. I'm pretty sure we're planning to go on the SaturdaySUNDAY (memory fail), anyone else going? :)

Friday at work was good. It was the last day of a good friend of mine, which was kinda sad as I'd really gotten used to having him around (I've not been working here that long after all). But it did mean there was lots of silliness and a big pub outing for lunch. Friday evening was then spent watching My Name is Earl with [info]jinx_lbc, and getting beaten at worms. :)

Saturday I went to Cabot Circus with [info]kissycat1000 and [info]jinx_lbc, and totally failed to buy anything. Probably a good thing really. ;) Oh yes, before I went, I called in to the post office to pick up a recorded delivery I'd missed on Friday...

what was in the delivery )

Saturday evening saw [info]kissycat1000 and I drink too much wine, stay up too late, and watch the first two teminators. It was ace :)

Sunday was a pretty lazy day. Though it did involve a quick trip out to tesco where [info]kissycat1000 finally managed to find a new pretty dress and matching shoes, hurrah! Then we stopped for lunch at the Monkey Tree. In the evening I went to see "Blood: The Last Vampire" with [info]azekeil. It was fun, reasonably well done, but not nearly as good as it could have been, so I was a little disappointed, but not so much as to make me regret paying for the ticket!

This morning I have finally gotten my new shoes. Can't wait to try them out! I should get to give them a good try out this weekend. Hopefully the weather will be good and sunny!

Anyway, lunch time!

Didn't have a good night last night. A dodgy gut combined with feeling overly hot left me feeling over-sensitive and not myself. But f*ck it, everyone gets like that sometimes, and it's rare for me. My gut still feels a little 'off' this morning, the lack of sleep has also given me a headache. But I now know I'm feeling over-sensitive/irritable, and so can keep a check on that side of things. I have some stand-up on an SD card in my wallet, I think I shall put my headphones on and play that while I work, a good laugh will always help. :)

Over the weekend I went to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with [info]kissycat1000 and [info]azekeil. I loved it, but then I'm quite heavily biased by my transformers obsession. :) The other two really liked it too, but not quite as much as the first one. The basic story premise can be summarised in an almost identical way to the first one, which is not that great. I loved the fact they portrayed Starscream's character much more in this one (stayed quite true to the cartoons!), and that Optimus Prime kicks huge amounts of ass. :) On a related note, I still continue to buy the toys when I find new cool ones. Unfortunately, now the new film is out, this means ther's quite a lot of new cool ones! I've just about run out of space at home for my collection, and one of the newest ones is currently sat on my desk here at work! I think I may let it live here, and bring one other to join it. :)

I want this one, and this one, and this one...

I should really do some work.
